A Note from the Executive Director

2025-12-18T19:05:36-08:00December 5th, 2024|

Dear Birth Center Clients, Families, and Community, Opening Our Community Birth Center has been everything I dreamed it would be plus so much more. Both the amazing care the birth center provides and the demands on myself as the Executive Director and lead midwife have exceeded my expectations. This fall, I’m making a personal request for your support in donating to help hire an Executive Assistant to assist me with my workload. Midwifing people through losses, gains, challenges and triumphs is a special honor that I relish every day. Our days (and nights!) at the birth center can be long

For Kelsey’s first pregnancy, she wanted the support of a midwife and doula and she was interested in a home birth. Because she lives rurally, Kelsey decided that the birth center was a better fit for her so that she could be closer to a hospital just in case. While researching options, Kelsey was excited to learn that Our Community Birth Center provides a home-like option with Certified Nurse Midwives, childbirth prep classes, lactation support, postpartum home visits, and opportunities to build community with other parents. She was also encouraged to hear that birth center parents get uninterrupted skin-to- skin

Rebecca’s Birth Center Story

2025-12-18T18:59:23-08:00October 26th, 2023|

Long before I was ever pregnant, I knew exactly how I would birth my baby. I always believed I would have a water birth, do it with little to no intervention, and without pain management drugs. When my husband and I found out we were expecting, we were overjoyed. Also, immediately overwhelmed with having to make a care provider choice. I talked to some girlfriends at work and was recommended to an obstetrician group. For the first seven months, I received care at a busy office with a large waiting room. With many receptionists and patients coming and going, the

NRP Certification Renewed!

2025-12-18T19:08:45-08:00September 15th, 2023|

This month our midwives and nurses at Our Community Birth Center renewed their Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification with a special all-day birth center focused training through the American Association of Birth Centers. Our team spent the day practicing skills and techniques to provide fast and effective emergency care to babies with respiratory or cardiac distress. Our Community Birth Center staff participate in a wide range of emergency practice drills throughout the year and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification to ensure we are always ready to provide the best care possible if a baby needs extra support after birth.
