Did you know that Our Community Birth Center is led by birth center parents and midwives collaboratively?
Our Board of Directors and many of our volunteers are birth center parents. Also, we are excited that even our architect, Kira Malone from 2fORM Architecture, who designed the remodel for our building is a birth center parent! It made the work of designing the birth center floor plan flow very smoothly since she has personal knowledge of the purpose and services of the birth center.
Kira shared this photo and message about the project:
“This birth center project is particularly meaningful for me because I understand the importance of empowering people with the option of a community-based birth. Both of my children were born with midwives (aka our heroes) and my youngest was born in the tub at the PeaceHealth Nurse Midwifery Birth Center.
Place is very important to me, and I wanted to bring my babies into the world in a peaceful, comfortable setting in the most natural way possible. I wanted to feel and remember the momentous experience of childbirth, in all the pain and glory. The midwives taught me how to tune in to my intuition, and gave me the confidence to tap into this primal knowledge, like all the birthing people before me since the beginning of time. They believed in me, and I trusted them with the most significant experience of my life.
I was truly touched by how caring, compassionate and knowledgeable my team of midwives were, and I was shocked when I heard that the Nurse Midwifery Birth Center was closing. This project is full circle for me, and I am excited to be a part of the team to bring the birth center back to our community.”
We are sending an EXTRA BIG THANK YOU to Kira today because we just got our official remodeling permit from the City of Springfield today! This means we’re ready to go and Kira served an essential role in getting us to this point.
