GRAND OPENING BRINGS FREESTANDING BIRTH CENTER TO LANE COUNTY

Our Community Birth Center Grand Opening Event October 24

Eugene/Springfield, OR – October 2021 – The public is invited to the Grand Opening of Our Community Birth Center, a new community-based nonprofit midwifery birth center that expands options for pregnant people in Lane County.

Join us Sunday October 24th between 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm for an in-person open house style event or for our live online event from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm. In-person location: 188 West B Street, Building O, Springfield, Oregon. Live online access details will be available at ourcommunitybirthcenter.org/events. Plans include a special cord cutting ceremony, birth center garden planting, tours, refreshments, and announcements. We can’t wait to share this special occasion with you. Covid precautions will be in place for the in person event.

Local parents are eager for the new birth center to open and it’s officially happening thanks to the support of the community! Now that the birth center facility is ready, we invite you to give to our Equitable Access Fund which will drive Our Community Birth Center’s vision of equitable access to midwifery birth center care, wrap-around support that helps parents and babies thrive, and improved outcomes through safe and thoughtful health care services. We are also seeking donations through Our Online Wish List to help stock the birth center rooms with necessary supplies and equipment.

The birth center’s programs specialize in the care of the childbearing person and also include all options pregnancy counseling, newborn and lactation care, women’s and LGBTQIA+ health care, family planning, classes, social connection and community support, and postpartum home visits. In Covid times more than ever, birth centers are an essential birthing option. Amid an urgent need to limit the spread of COVID-19, and conserve hospital resources for those in critical condition, Our Community Birth Center is open for healthy pregnant people and their families who are looking for ways to reduce exposure risk for themselves and their babies.

We asked local pregnant folks to share how they feel about Our Community Birth Center’s opening. Morgan Brown said, “I am a first time mother and I was in search of a positive, calm birthing experience where I felt I could get accessible care. I’m so happy I found Our Community Birth Center.”

Abigail Rotholz said, “I’m excited to be in community with other expectant mothers (and their partners) as we learn how to navigate pregnancy, prepare for childbirth, and do so in a natural, healthy, simple way. I want to gain confidence in and understanding of my body’s processes, learn ways to strengthen mind and body health, and form meaningful relationships with those who will be joining and guiding me through this process.”

Our Community Birth Center will start accepting new clients November 1, 2021. Find more information about how to sign up at ourcommunitybirthcenter.org.
