Fall Is Health Insurance Open Enrollment Time
Fall is open enrollment time for health insurance. This is the once a year time when you can sign up for or change your health insurance plan for the coming year. Your insurance plan affects how we bill for your health care. If we are in-network with your plan, we can bill your insurance. If we are not in-network with your health plan, you can still receive health care with us, but you must pay out of pocket. Grandparent’s Tea A Sweet Success
We had a wonderful time at our first ever Grandparent's High Tea on February 22, 2026 at the Washburne Cafe! It was such a sweet event, filled with parents, children and babies, grandparents and soon-to-be great grandparents!
Welcome, Emily
We're excited to announce that Emily Tyde has joined the birth center team. Emily is a Certified Professional Midwife who also has a background in massage therapy. Through various jobs, she has gained many skills that benefit her midwifery practice, including being excellent at IV insertions! She is also a great teacher and enjoys facilitating our Childbirth Preparation classes. Emily is also a mother to two energetic sons, both born with midwives. The oldest was born in a hospital and the youngest was born at home. Join us in welcoming Emily to the team!
Spooky Fun Had at 2nd Annual Trunk-Or-Treat
We had quite the turnout for our 2nd annual Trunk or Treat and Resource Sharing Night! Representatives from Every Kid Pediatric Dentistry, Awesome Possum Pediatrics, Parenting Now, Team Duckling, Catholic Community Services, and more passed out candy and snacks to families, and shared about their programs. This is such a fun community event that helps families learn about parenting resources available to them in our community! We can't wait for our 3rd annual Trunk or Treat on October 28, 2026 from 6 pm to 8 pm in the birth center parking lot.

Meet Victoria! Victoria is a Certified Professional Midwife and works as a Birth Assistant at Our Community Birth Center. Victoria has been attending births and supporting families and individuals in their reproductive journey for 26 years. Dear Birth Center Clients, Families, and Community, Opening Our Community Birth Center has been everything I dreamed it would be plus so much more. Both the amazing care the birth center provides and the demands on myself as the Executive Director and lead midwife have exceeded my expectations. Remembering Cindy Hunter
We are deeply saddened to share news of the passing of nurse midwife Cindy Hunter on October 25, 2024. Please join us in remembering and honoring her life. She was born on August 20, 1948 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas to Dorothy and Edwin Orloske. In 1966, Cindy graduated from East High School in Wichita. Cindy stayed lifelong friends with several people she knew from high school. Four years later, she completed a bachelor’s degree at Kansas State in English and Biology. Zoe (she/her/hers) is a Certified Nurse Midwife at Our Community Birth Center. Zoe is a graduate of University of Michigan where she studied global health and nursing and University of Illinois at Chicago where she studied midwifery. She relocated to Eugene from the Midwest in 2024 to join the team at Our Community Birth Center. Zoe is excited to work at a birth center that shares her commitment to inclusive, equitable, and accessible midwifery care. She is also a parent of a child born with midwife assistance. NRP Certification Renewed!
This month our midwives and nurses at Our Community Birth Center renewed their Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification with a special all-day birth center focused training through the American Association of Birth Centers. Our team spent the day practicing skills and techniques to provide fast and effective emergency care to babies with respiratory or cardiac distress. Our Community Birth Center staff participate in a wide range of emergency practice drills throughout the year and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification to ensure we are always ready to provide the best care possible if a baby needs extra support after birth.
Baby Clinic
Baby Clinic is every Monday at Our Community Birth Center. Parents and babies are welcome to drop in anytime between 1 pm - 2 pm. This is an opportunity to meet other parents and receive support from your peers and birth center nurses and midwives. You can check your baby's weight, socialize, and ask questions. Baby Clinic is facilitated by our wonderful and very experienced lactation consultant and nurse, Annie Hoag RN IBCLC. You do not have to be a birth center client to participate, anyone is welcome. Postpartum Bonding Session
It was a beautiful day at the birth center. We had the pleasure of facilitating two postpartum bonding sessions in our pool and birth room. Big thank you to @whenabellyblooms and @desirea_still for taking photos of the sessions today. We can't wait to share some of the actual photos when they're ready!
